A golf glove is the cheapest piece of kit that changes how the club feels in your hands. It is also the one most golfers keep far too long, playing with a shiny, stiff palm because a new one never quite makes the shopping list.
We stock golf gloves from FootJoy, Titleist and Callaway, and they all go into our boxes, so we handle a lot of them. This is how they compare, and which one we would buy for different golfers.
If you need help with sizing or which hand, our golf glove size guide covers both. This post is about which glove.
The short answer
- Best all-rounder: FootJoy StaSof. Soft, comfortable, familiar and well priced.
- Best feel: FootJoy Pure Touch. Thin premium leather for golfers who want to feel everything.
- Best tour-style glove: Titleist Players. Close fit, thin leather, what a lot of better players reach for.
- Best value: Callaway Dawn Patrol. Our lowest-priced branded glove, and a sensible everyday choice.

FootJoy StaSof
If you asked a room of club golfers which glove they wear, StaSof would come up more than any other. It is soft cabretta leather, comfortable from the first round and holds its shape well.
It is the glove we would recommend to someone who does not want to think about it. If you are buying a glove as a present and know the size, this is the safe choice.
FootJoy Pure Touch
Pure Touch is thinner and softer than StaSof. The feel through the grip is noticeably more direct, which better players tend to love.
The trade-off is durability. Thin leather wears faster, especially if you practise a lot or play in the wet. Worth it if you care about feel; probably not if you get through a glove a month.
Titleist Players
Titleist's tour-style glove. Close fitting with thin leather and a low-profile closure, it is a favourite with low handicappers who want the glove to disappear in their hand.
The fit runs snug, so if you are between sizes and like a little room, think carefully before going down.
Callaway Dawn Patrol
The value option, and none the worse for it. It is comfortable, durable and costs less than the others, which matters if you play several times a week and wear gloves out.
It will not feel as soft as a premium cabretta glove, but plenty of good golfers play in it happily.
Not fussy about the brand?
Our Mystery Tour-Standard Glove sends a top-brand glove in your size and hand without you choosing the model. It suits golfers who just need a good glove and do not mind which badge is on it.
How long should a golf glove last?
It depends far more on how you treat it than which brand you buy. A golfer playing weekly will typically get through several a season. Signs it is time for a new one:
- The palm has gone shiny and slippery.
- The leather has hardened after drying out from a wet round.
- You notice yourself gripping harder to stop the club moving.
- There is a hole under the heel pad or at the fingertips.
Take it off between shots when you can, let it dry naturally, and never dry it on a radiator. Leather that dries too quickly goes hard and splits. Playing through the colder months? Our winter golf essentials guide covers what else to carry.
Common questions
What is the best golf glove in the UK?
For most golfers, the FootJoy StaSof. It balances feel, comfort, durability and price better than anything else we stock. Better players chasing feel may prefer the FootJoy Pure Touch or Titleist Players.
Why do golfers only wear one glove?
The lead hand does most of the work holding the club, so that is where grip matters most. Most golfers leave the other hand bare for feel. The glove goes on the opposite hand to the one you play with, so a right-handed golfer wears it on the left.
Are expensive golf gloves worth it?
For feel, yes, if you notice the difference. For durability, not necessarily. Thinner premium leather often wears faster than a mid-priced glove.
Is FootJoy or Titleist better?
Neither is better overall. FootJoy StaSof is the more comfortable all-rounder; Titleist Players is the closer, thinner tour fit. It comes down to how you like a glove to feel.
Does a golf glove make a good gift?
On its own it is a thoughtful top-up, provided you know the size and hand. As part of a box with balls and tees, it becomes a proper present.
