Golf Christmas Gifts 2026: What to Actually Buy a Golfer

Every year, around the middle of November, someone asks us the same question.

What do you actually buy a golfer for Christmas?

It is a fair question, because golfers are genuinely difficult to shop for. Ask one what they want and there is a good chance they will point you at a £500 driver. Buy them clothing and you need a size. Buy them golf balls and you will discover they only play one specific model and can explain why for twenty minutes.

So here is our honest guide. Not a list of twenty-five things nobody needs — just what golfers actually use, sorted by what you are willing to spend.

The three mistakes people make

Mistake one: buying equipment. Clubs, shoes and gloves all have specifications, and a golfer who has been playing for years already has strong opinions about all of them. Unless you know exactly what they want and why, equipment is a gamble.

Mistake two: buying novelty. The golf-themed mug. The book of golf jokes. The sign that says something about a nineteenth hole. Every golfer already owns three of these and uses none of them.

Mistake three: buying one dozen golf balls. Not because it is a bad gift — golfers get through balls constantly — but because it does not feel like a present. It feels like a top-up.

What works is the middle ground: the gear golfers get through, presented properly.

Golf Christmas gifts under £30

This is the Secret Santa and stocking filler bracket, and it is where most people struggle.

A sleeve of premium balls. Three Pro V1s or Chrome Softs is a small, genuinely welcome gift. Buy graded pre-owned and you can put a premium ball in their hands for the price of a mid-range new one.

Tees. Not glamorous. Absolutely gets used. Every golfer snaps tees and every golfer forgets to buy more.

A glove. Gloves wear through by spring. The catch is sizing — you need the size and which hand, which we come back to below.

Golf Christmas gifts around £50

This is the main-present bracket for most people, and it is where a gift box starts to properly earn its place.

At £50 you can buy one decent thing — a good glove, a dozen premium balls, a nice cap — or you can buy a box that has several of them in it. The box wins on the day, because opening one thing is a moment and opening six things is an event.

Golf Christmas gifts around £100

The £100 bracket is usually for a dad, a father-in-law, or the golfer who already owns the entire pro shop.

The problem at this price is that £100 does not buy a meaningful piece of equipment — it is not enough for a driver or a decent set of irons, but it is too much to spend on consumables without it feeling odd.

The one thing everyone gets wrong: glove hand

Golfers wear one glove, on their lead hand — which is the opposite hand to the one you would guess. A right-handed golfer wears the glove on the left hand. A left-handed golfer wears it on the right.

Sizes run S, S/M, M, M/L and L. If you are buying blind for a man, Medium is the safest guess. For a woman, Small or S/M.

Every box we sell asks for both, because getting it wrong is the single most common gift mistake in golf.

What about a golf hamper or gift basket?

Golf hampers usually mean one of two things: a basket of golf-branded food and drink, or a box of actual golf gear.

The food version is fine as a novelty but it is not really a golf present — it is a hamper with a flag on it. The gear version is the one that gets used, and it is what we build.

When to order

Two dates matter. The last posting dates published each December, and the point in early December when everything sensible sells out.

The second one catches more people than the first. If you know what you want, buy it in November. Golf gifting has a very short, very sharp peak and the good stuff goes early.

The short version

• Under £30 — a sleeve of premium balls, tees, or a smaller gift box.
• Around £50 — a proper gift box. Better on the day than one item at the same price.
• Around £100 — a premium box, for the golfer who already has the equipment.
• Avoid — clubs, shoes, clothing sizes, and anything with a golf pun on it.
• Check — glove size and which hand, before you buy anything with a glove in it.
